Stammi Vicino is the third album by aabu and comes 7 years after the previous (self-titled) album released in 2018 by Brutture Moderne.

The album marks a sharp turn in the band’s sound, abandoning altogether the distorted and minimalist approaches of the past and migrating to worlds of electronic contaminations, layered and complex arrangements, and synthetic rhythms side by side with acoustic and traditional instruments.

The “song form,” which has always been at the center of aabu’s creative activity, again remains the basis of the writing, but canonical structures are joined by unstructured episodes that take the listener into new and unexplored territories, devoid of reference points. In this sense Ho Paura di Me, the closing track of the album as well as the lyrical and instrumental manifesto of the band’s new course, stands out.

The themes dealt with, as the title and cover foreshadow, revolve around the concept of closeness and resistance to individualism, recounting an anachronistic renunciation of superstructures in order to show oneself (for better or worse) for who one really is, laid bare as much in one’s merits as in one’s shadowy areas.

The songs on the record are born out of a desire to feel part of something bigger, the ever-present need to rediscover true human closeness as an antidote to synthetic relationships, to really feel alive and accept yourself for who you are.

In this sense, Stammi Vicino seems more like a path of psychoanalysis than just an album!

Opening

Acqua Distillata

acqua distillata is the moniker behind which Lucia Gatto hides.
Melancholic, a little unsteady and naïve, she writes tiny songs that weave together fragments of life, gloom, and simple things read in the scent of coffee, whispered in your ear, or leafed through in the Brothers Grimm’s fairy tales.
In 2020 she released her first EP, “Cerotti,” colored together with Rareș, with the loving help of Nove Cento. Simple, blurred atmospheres—songs to take shelter with during summer storms.
“Drops” (June 2021), the second collaborative work with Rareş, collects bottled messages to be left at sea. Light, airy electronics in a soundscape inhabited by voices, guitars, and nostalgia.
For the “mille piccoli cieli” family she released “Bolle” (2023).
Songs like flashes of light that smudge the sky—“Bolle” lays bare the songwriter’s most intimate, delicate side while always staying “on tiptoe.”
She has just released the new track “diamine” and the collaboration with the Friulian artist Ribaltavapori, “Volume Uno,” a musical project that blends songwriting with orchestral arrangements to craft refined atmospheres and approach deep themes with delicacy.
