After the incendiary debut album “Fiesta”, released in 2022, Leatherette are ready to take flight in a direction of their own and get back on track with an album even more provocative and sophisticated than the previous one, “Small Talk“, out on 3 November for Bronson Recordings.
The album boasts some of the band’s brashest pop songs, though it’s pop that’s cleverly twisted, acutely perverse and ready to explode when you least expect it. But it also contains some of the most challenging and uncompromising tracks the group has ever written, a violent oscillation between noise and melody, a cocktail that becomes more engaging with each listen.
Strengthened by the approval obtained thanks to their first work, the group wanted to break the mold of post punk, giving free rein to their love for wild noise and twisted pop, in a more free and free path from the constraints of the genre, which has allowed them to coin a highly personal language and will allow them to establish themselves as a unique voice in the current Italian musical panorama and beyond.
If “Fiesta” in fact offered an intense, inspired and personal vision of post-punk, through caustic riffs, feverish sax explosions and passionate vocalizations that showed how the five members of the band are skilled interpreters of the genre, their second album, “Small Talk” goes beyond anything the group has done before, giving life to a new language fueled by the same fury that characterized the debut album, but finding new forms of expression.
