The Kiffness

The Kiffness is a South African artist. He is known for his collaborations with interesting people and animals from all over the world. The project was founded by David Scott in 2011, but gained internet notoriety in 2020.

From rather humble beginnings in 2011, David began playing the music he composed in his bedroom in small bars in Cape Town with his brother Mike. Inspired by the live electronic music group Goldfish, David fused keyboards and trumpet played live with electronic backing tracks, while his brother played live electronic drums.

The project began to gain traction in 2014, when David’s music began to be played on South African national radio stations. The group expanded to include Mathew Gold on vocals, Mvelo Shandu on bass, and Raiven Hansmann and Clem Carr on keyboards and saxophone. With this lineup, the band has toured extensively both in South Africa and abroad.

When the pandemic broke out in 2020, David shifted his efforts to YouTube and began singing parodies about the Coronavirus. These parodies opened the door for him to a much larger international online audience, rapidly growing his channel. After numerous parody songs, David began experimenting with “internet collaborations,” remixing interesting videos found online. These videos have become a huge success. In 2022 he began touring his new live show based on online collaborations, with a sold-out tour of Germany in November of that year.
