Funk, Afrobeat and jazz, these are the foundations of Il Mago Del Gelato, a sensual and lively mixture where the flavors of the Mediterranean and the spirit of Via Padova make their way between enveloping horns, enthralling grooves and melodies full of freshness.
Il Mago del gelato are four musicians, fascinated by the world and its transversality and this strong curiosity, both musical and cultural, is summarized in their work. They steal the name from a bar in Via Padova, where they, like the rest of the neighborhood, meet to drink a coffee in a mix of different languages and cultures. From that bar the boys observe, touch, mix with the others, finding inspiration and ideas for their music.
The EP released in October “Maledetta Nella Notte” ranges from more energetic moments, strongly characterized by Afro-beat and Funk influence to introspective atmospheres, in which the reminiscence of warm and sensual jazz resonates strongly.
All held together by a sound paste that is the unique and recognizable imprint of Il Mago Del Gelato: vocoder, percussion, 80s synthesizers, roots guitars and a rhythm section of bass and drums that drags you into a wild and sweaty dance.
An experimentation that originates in the most differentiated Milan, that of Via Padova, where more than fifty different ethnic groups and cultures coexist and mix; and then extended across the entire Mediterranean, embracing apparently unapproachable musical traditions.
What Il Mago del Gelato does is put music back at the center through research, the quality of the sound, the ability to listen, understand, be influenced, and then amalgamate everything with delight.

Admission is reserved for HOVOC 24/25 registered members.The card is valid for the entire 2024/2025 season, fill in the online form (pre-membership/covoclub) and collect the card at the entrance by paying the annual fee of €5.
